The main types of safety capacitors include X and Y capacitors.

X capacitor for suppressing differential mode interference. The X capacitor is normally connected across between L and N (N for the zero wire, L for the fire wire), and X capacitors mainly include X1 and X2 capacitors. Each grade has a different withstand voltage. There is no danger to human body in case of failure.

Y capacitors are used to suppress common mode interference and include Y1 capacitors and Y2 capacitors. Y capacitors are of the safety series and are collectively referred to as Y capacitors when connected in parallel between the fire and earth wires and between the zero and earth wires.

Safety capacitors are mainly used in electronic instruments and electronic equipment powered by the power supply, and are applied to switches, contacts and other parts that generate spark discharge, and can play a role in absorbing pulse interference and reducing electromagnetic disturbances.
