How do you go from learning geospatial tools to actually using them in real projects?

That’s a current gap for many early-career GIS professionals.

At FOSS4G Europe, Quarticle’s Lead GIS Engineer Ionut Ungurianu is giving a hands-on session focused on working through the full geospatial stack with real data and workflows.

If you’re early in your career and want to discover how they actually fit together in practice, don’t miss this session:

To participate, you must prove you are a student by submitting a student card at [email protected], specifying the side event title as the subject of the e-mail.

Many geospatial initiatives do not fail due to poor analysis.

They fail because the outcomes never become embedded in operational processes.

In most cases, the initial conditions are strong: a clear use case, a validated pilot, and meaningful analytical output.

However, the transition from prototype to production often exposes deeper structural issues.

Geospatial capabilities are frequently implemented as analytical layers, rather than as part of core business infrastructure.

As a result, insights remain isolated from decision-making workflows, limiting their practical impact.

This is what we refer to as the ex*****on gap. Closing this gap requires a shift in approach:
- from standalone analysis to integrated systems,
- from static reporting to continuous intelligence,
- and from experimental projects to production-grade architecture.

Only when geospatial intelligence is embedded into day-to-day operations does it begin to deliver measurable business value.

We explore this in more detail here: https://quarticle.ch/blog/closing-the-ex*****on-gap-in-geospatial-projects

🚨 Quarticle has joined the Santiago Network.

The Santiago Network connects developing countries and communities with the timely, demand-driven, and tailored technical assistance, knowledge, and support they need to drive needs-based action on loss and damage.

At Quarticle, we see geospatial data, cloud-native infrastructure, and spatial analytics as essential to translating complex climate challenges into practical actions.

We are proud to contribute our expertise and collaborate with partners across the network to provide support where it is most needed.

What makes FOSS4G different from other conferences?

The community.

This is one of the few places where a large variety of experts and peers collaborate around the same open ecosystem.

That’s why organizations across Europe keep coming back.

And that’s why we continue to support it.

If open geospatial is part of your work, let’s chat this June at FOSS4G Europe in Timisoara.

How efficient is your last-mile network?

Most networks look ok on a map until you start analyzing coverage, overlaps, and actual delivery efficiency.

With Quarticle's Graph, you can visualize delivery points, evaluate hub coverage, and test the impact of adding micro-hubs to identify redundancies, gaps, and optimization opportunities.

World Environment Day 🌍

A few practical things you can do today:

• Review how your organization uses environmental and location data in decision-making

• Reduce unnecessary data processing or storage where possible

• Support open datasets and initiatives that improve environmental transparency

• Discuss one concrete improvement for the year ahead

Sometimes, progress starts with simple steps.

Many of the interesting conversations at conferences happen in smaller settings, between people trying to solve similar problems from different angles.

The B2B session at FOSS4G Europe is exactly that kind of space. You'll get:

• Meaningful conversations with peers
• Short pitches grounded in real use cases
• A chance to explore partnerships without the usual conference noise

We’re looking forward to being part of those discussions.

Who else is joining the B2B sessions?

Weather shapes nearly every dimension of our lives.

Reliable forecasts are not just helpful for planning our daily routines, they are mission-critical for sectors such as aviation, logistics, agriculture, and emergency response.

Today, weather updates reach us instantly through clean icons on smartphone apps and widgets.

Yet this simplicity hides the complex chain of data collection, modeling, and distribution that makes modern forecasting possible.

Deep-dive into the topic in this article by Geoawesome on satellite weather forecasting in the age of AI and climate change:

How satellites and AI power modern weather forecasting — improving storm tracking, early warnings, and climate resilience

What does a production-ready geospatial stack actually look like?

This June 29–July 3 at FOSS4G Europe, you don’t just hear about tools. You’ll get to dive into PostGIS, QGIS, GeoServer, GDAL, and more as part of real workflows you can see, test, and understand.

We’ll be there. Who’s joining?

Most geospatial tools stop at visualization.
Graph by Quarticle is built differently.

It is a cloud-native geospatial intelligence platform designed for interactive analysis, data enrichment, and spatial exploration at scale.

Instead of working with static maps or isolated datasets, your team can seamlessly:

- Run dynamic exposure, hazard-based lookups, and concentration analyses instantly.
- Automatically process and validate massive location datasets with geocoding and reverse geocoding.
- Track distance, area, and real-time elevation profiles directly on the map.
- Seamlessly pivot into integrated street-level imagery for real-world context.
- Easily calculate proximity, reach, and geographic catchment areas.
- Combine multiple geospatial layers in a single environment with secure, role-based access.

This is not just geospatial visualization. It is geospatial analysis made operational.
