September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation—a time to honour Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and reflect on the ongoing journey of Reconciliation.

To commemorate this important time of year, we put together a list of community events taking place across Winnipeg throughout September. These events offer meaningful opportunities to learn, listen, connect, and engage with Indigenous-led cultural, educational, and community programming.

We encourage everyone to take time this month and throughout the year to participate, listen, and support Indigenous voices and communities in ways that are respectful and intentional.

Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day, we honour the lives impacted by the toxic drug crisis and remember those who are no longer with us. We recognize the grief carried by families, friends, and communities, while creating space for reflection, connection, and hope.

This day is also a reminder that stigma and judgment can create barriers to care. Everyone deserves access to compassionate, culturally safe, and evidence-informed supports where they feel respected, heard, and valued.

There are meaningful ways each of us can take action—from learning about overdose prevention and knowing how to respond in an emergency, to sharing harm reduction information and creating space for open, compassionate conversations.

Together, we can help build communities where everyone is met with understanding and where no one is left without compassion, support, or care.
