Bible Story: Who Are the Cherubim Angels in Heaven?

"So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life." (Genesis 3:24)

Scripture first introduces us to the cherubim as guardians of God's holiness. These aren't the cute baby angels of popular culture - they are powerful beings who serve in God's presence and uphold His righteousness.

The Bible gives us several clear descriptions of these magnificent creatures. In Ezekiel's vision, he sees them with four faces - of a man, a lion, an ox, and an eagle. "Each of the four had the face of a human being, and on the right side each had the face of a lion, and on the left the face of an ox; each also had the face of an eagle." (Ezekiel 1:10)

Their most significant appearance is upon the Ark of the Covenant, where God commanded their images to be placed: "Make one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other end... The cherubim are to have their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover with them." (Exodus 25:19-20)

In God's temple, King Solomon placed large cherubim statues, showing their role in worship: "The cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark and overshadowed the ark and its carrying poles." (1 Kings 8:7)

These beings serve at God's throne, not as objects of worship themselves, but as witnesses to His glory and holiness. "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory." (Isaiah 6:3)

The cherubim remind us of God's perfect holiness and the reverence we should have in approaching Him through Christ, who has made a way for us into God's presence.

Bible Story: What Does 666 Mean in the Bible?

"Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666." (Revelation 13:18)

God's Word gives us clear warning about a time when the antichrist will require people to receive a mark "on their right hand or on their foreheads" (Revelation 13:16). This mark, identified as the number 666, represents direct opposition to God's authority.

Scripture shows us this will be a time of great deception, when many will be pressured to choose between earthly survival and faithfulness to God. "No one may buy or sell except one who has the mark." (Revelation 13:17)

The number 666 stands as a representation of human pride and rebellion. While God's number seven represents perfection, six falls short of God's glory - and this triple repetition emphasizes complete imperfection, the fullness of human rebellion against God.

But God's Word doesn't reveal this to cause fear. Rather, it strengthens believers' faith by showing that the Lord has already revealed these events. As Jesus taught, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace." (John 16:33)

Most importantly, Scripture assures us of Christ's final victory. Those who remain faithful to Jesus and refuse this mark are promised eternal life. "They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony." (Revelation 12:11)

The First Revealed Name of God: I AM WHO I AM

"God said to Moses, 'I AM WHO I AM.' And he said, 'Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.'" (Exodus 3:14)
In this pivotal moment at the burning bush, God revealed His personal name to Moses. In Hebrew, this name is "YHWH" (יהוה), often pronounced as Yahweh or written as LORD in our Bibles. This wasn't just a title - it was God's covenant name, expressing His eternal, self-existent nature.

When Moses asked God's name, the LORD didn't simply provide a label. He revealed His very character: "I AM WHO I AM" (אֶהְיֶה אֲשֶׁר אֶהְיֶה, Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh). This name declares God's absolute independence, His eternal presence, and His unchanging faithfulness.

This revelation came at a crucial time, as God was about to deliver His people from Egypt. "This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations." (Exodus 3:15)
The name carries profound meaning:

He is the eternally existing One
He is faithful to His promises
He is present with His people
He is sovereign over all creation

Jesus later affirmed His divine nature by using this same name: "Before Abraham was, I AM." (John 8:58)

Bible Story: Was Samson's True Power in His Hair?

The story of Samson often leads people to mistakenly believe his hair was the source of his strength, largely due to his own words to Delilah: "If my head were shaved, my strength would leave me, and I would become as weak as any other man" (Judges 16:17). After his hair was cut, he did indeed become powerless, seemingly confirming this connection.

However, a closer look at Judges 13-16 reveals that Samson's true power came from the Holy Spirit and his Nazirite vow to God, with his uncut hair being a symbol of this consecration. The misconception arises from focusing on the visible sign (his hair) rather than what it represented (his covenant with God).

The Nazirite vow, detailed in Numbers 6, included three main requirements: abstaining from wine and strong drink, avoiding contact with dead bodies, and never cutting one's hair. This vow set Samson apart for God's service before his birth, as the angel announced to his mother (Judges 13:5).

Throughout Judges 14-16, we see the phrase "the Spirit of the LORD came upon him" before Samson's mighty acts. When his hair was cut, it wasn't the loss of hair itself that weakened him, but rather that "the LORD had left him" (Judges 16:20). His broken vow represented broken fellowship with God.

Samson's final act of strength came after his hair had grown back - not because of the hair itself, but because God answered his prayer for one last demonstration of power (Judges 16:28). This confirms that his strength was always from the Lord, not his hair.

Interesting fact: Samson was the longest-serving judge of Israel (20 years) mentioned in the Bible, yet he repeatedly struggled with personal sins and broken vows, making him a complex figure of both strength and weakness.

Bible Story: Who Are the Four Horsemen of Revelation?

"After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven." (Revelation 4:1)
Scripture provides us with clear prophecy in the Book of Revelation, where God revealed to John a sequence of events that will unfold according to His sovereign plan. When Jesus Christ, the Lamb who alone is worthy, opens the first four seals, four horsemen appear in succession.

First comes a rider on a white horse: "I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest." (Revelation 6:2) This rider represents the rise of conquering powers that will come before Christ's return.

The second seal releases a rider on a fiery red horse: "Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other." (Revelation 6:4) The Lord reveals here a time of warfare that will come upon the earth.

With the third seal comes a black horse: "Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, 'Two pounds of wheat for a day's wages!'" (Revelation 6:5-6) God shows us a period of severe economic hardship and famine.

The fourth seal brings the pale horse: "Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth." (Revelation 6:8)

These prophecies remind believers that God has revealed these events not to frighten us, but to prepare us. As Jesus taught, "When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." (Luke 21:28)

Bible Story: What is the Third Heaven in Bible?

The concept of the "Third Heaven" appears in 2 Corinthians 12:2, where Paul writes about "a man in Christ who...was caught up to the third heaven." This reference implies a biblical understanding of multiple heavens, which has fascinated believers for centuries.
In biblical cosmology, the three heavens are traditionally understood as:

The First Heaven: The atmospheric heaven - where birds fly and weather occurs
The Second Heaven: The celestial heaven - where the sun, moon, and stars exist
The Third Heaven: God's dwelling place - the spiritual realm where His throne is

This Third Heaven is the same as what Scripture calls "Paradise" (2 Corinthians 12:4) and is described in Revelation as the place of God's throne, where angels serve Him and where believers will ultimately dwell. Bible Story: How Did Jonah Survive Inside the Great Fish?

The biblical account of Jonah's three days and three nights inside a great fish (sometimes called a whale) is one of Scripture's most fascinating miracles. According to Jonah 1:17, "the LORD appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights."

From a natural perspective, survival would have been impossible due to several factors: lack of oxygen, stomach acids, and extreme pressure in the deep. However, the text presents this as a divine miracle where God specifically "appointed" or prepared this fish. Jonah 2:9 reveals that "Salvation belongs to the LORD," emphasizing that his survival was entirely due to God's supernatural intervention.
Importantly, Jesus referenced this event as historical fact and used it as a prophetic sign of His own death and resurrection. In Matthew 12:40, He said, "For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."

In Jonah's prayer from inside the fish (Jonah 2:1-9), he describes his experience in vivid terms: being in the "belly of Sheol," surrounded by waters, wrapped in seaweed, and near the "roots of the mountains." These details suggest he was fully conscious during this ordeal, making the miracle even more remarkable.

Interesting fact: The Hebrew word used for "appointed" (מָנָה, manah) in Jonah 1:17 is the same word used when God "appointed" the plant, the worm, and the east wind later in the story, showing God's sovereign control over all creation for His purposes.

Who Was Melchizedek, the Mysterious Priest-King?

Melchizedek appears briefly but significantly in Genesis 14:18-20 as both the king of Salem (ancient Jerusalem) and priest of God Most High. His encounter with Abraham occurred after Abraham's victory over the four kings, where he brought out bread and wine, blessed Abraham, and received tithes from him - establishing a unique spiritual authority that predated the Levitical priesthood by centuries.

What makes Melchizedek particularly mysterious is that he appears without genealogy or historical context. Hebrews 7:3 states he was "without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever." This doesn't mean he was literally eternal, but rather that Scripture intentionally presents him without these details to typify Christ. This absence of genealogy is particularly striking in Genesis, a book that meticulously records genealogies.

In Psalm 110:4, God declares the Messiah to be "a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek." The Book of Hebrews extensively uses this to show how Jesus Christ fulfills this role perfectly - combining both kingship and priesthood in one person, establishing a superior priesthood to the Levitical order. Unlike the Levitical priests who served temporarily and had to offer sacrifices for their own sins first, Christ's priesthood is eternal and perfect.

The bread and wine Melchizedek brought out are seen by many biblical scholars as foreshadowing the Lord's Supper. His royal priesthood reveals how God established a pattern of spiritual authority outside the typical Jewish priestly lineage, pointing to Christ's universal priesthood that would extend beyond Israel to all nations.

Interesting fact: The name "Melchizedek" means "King of Righteousness" in Hebrew, and his title "King of Salem" means "King of Peace" - both pointing to his role as a type of Christ.

Which Books Were Removed from the Bible?

The 66 books in today's Protestant Bible represent the complete, divinely inspired Word of God. While there are other ancient religious texts, such as the Apocrypha (including books like Maccabees, Tobit, and Judith), Protestant Christians recognize only the 39 books of the Old Testament and 27 books of the New Testament as divinely inspired Scripture.

The key reasons these other books are not considered Scripture include: they were written during the intertestamental period (400 BC - 100 BC), they were never part of the Hebrew Bible canon that Jesus and the apostles used, they contain historical and theological inconsistencies, and most importantly, they were not recognized as divinely inspired by the early church fathers.

Jesus Himself validated the Hebrew Bible canon (Luke 24:44), which matches our current Old Testament. The New Testament books were carefully evaluated based on their apostolic authority, consistency with known Scripture, and universal acceptance by the early church.

Can Satan Enter God's Heaven?

Many people are surprised to learn that according to the Book of Job (1:6-7), Satan could indeed present himself before God in heaven: "Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them." This passage reveals that Satan had some form of access to God's presence in heaven, where he acted as an accuser against humanity.

However, this access appears to be temporary and limited. Revelation 12:7-9 describes a future war in heaven where Satan and his angels are permanently cast out: "And there was war in heaven... and the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan... he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him." This final battle marks the end of Satan's access to heaven's courts.

It's important to note that Satan's ability to enter heaven doesn't mean he has power or authority there. In Job's account, he can only act within the limitations God sets. This reflects the biblical truth that even Satan, as a created being, remains under God's sovereign control.
