How specific are your ERP requirements?

If you're a Canadian manufacturer choosing an ERP system, a requirement like "inventory management" may be too broad for a vendor to understand what you actually need.

Does your business need inventory tracking across multiple warehouses? Lot and serial number traceability? Specific inventory reports?

The same level of detail matters for production workflows, financial reporting, Canadian tax requirements, and integrations with existing systems.

Documenting these requirements clearly makes it easier to compare ERP vendors and verify that the system delivers what was agreed upon.

It can also help prevent disagreements over implementation scope when requirements are included in the vendor agreement.

Our guide explains what Canadian manufacturers should consider when selecting an ERP system.

Most Canadian manufacturers choose ERP after a vendor demo. That's backwards. Here's the 6-step selection process that protects your budget and go-live.

Automations have a start date, but few have a formal end date.

And you rarely get an alert when they continue running long after they're needed.

An automated email could still be promoting an expired offer. A prospect already talking to your sales team might still be receiving re-engagement messages.

These automations may be working exactly as configured, even though they no longer reflect what's happening in the business.
It's worth regularly reviewing which automations are active, who they're reaching, and whether the messages or actions are still appropriate.

These checks should also happen whenever a campaign ends, an offer changes, or an internal process is updated.

We've shared five examples in the carousel of what can happen when automations go unchecked.

At Cyberlobe, we help businesses review their existing technology and workflows to identify where improvements are needed.

Customers often feel the effects of internal system problems long before the business recognizes the cause.

A delayed quote, a missed update, an invoice issue, or a slow response can all start with something happening behind the scenes.

Sometimes information is being entered more than once, approvals are taking too long, or different teams are working from different information.

Customers only see the outcome.

A technology assessment can help identify where systems and workflows are contributing to that friction, so the business can address the cause rather than repeatedly dealing with the symptoms.

A four-hour conversation with the people doing the work can reveal a lot about how a business actually operates.

Cyberlobe’s on-site workshop for construction and manufacturing businesses in BC gives us time to sit with your team and look closely at how work moves through your current systems and processes.

We look at things like duplicate data entry, manual work between systems, slow handoffs, underused software, and opportunities for better integration or automation.

You leave with a clearer picture of what should be addressed first and a prioritized action plan for your technology.

A lot of businesses do not realize how much system knowledge sits in one person’s head until something changes.

Someone leaves. A system breaks. A handover becomes urgent. An outside provider needs access.

It usually does not start intentionally. Over time, the business just becomes dependent on one person knowing where everything is.

A one-page systems map can help.

Start with the basics:
- Start with the money.
- Ask your systems.
- Check single-person access.
- Map the connections.
- Structure renewal reminders.

The carousel shows what to include under each step, without turning it into a full technical audit.

ERP implementation costs usually include software, setup, training, and vendor support.

One cost that is easier to miss is the internal time required from the person leading the project inside the business.

For many SMBs, that person is still running operations, finance, administration, or another core function while also helping the ERP project move forward.

When that capacity is not planned for, decisions slow down, testing gets pushed, and unresolved issues move closer to go-live.

Before implementation starts, it is worth being realistic about who will lead internally, what work needs to move off their plate, whether that work can actually be reassigned, and what support the rest of the team will need.

When a business runs well despite its systems, the team ends up carrying a lot of the operational load themselves.

For one electrical contractor in BC’s Fraser Valley, job details were shared verbally, field notes were handwritten, crew hours were tracked individually, and inventory still depended on spreadsheets and physical counts.

The team was skilled, and the business was functioning well, but as the workload increased, so did the amount of manual coordination needed to keep everything moving.

Cyberlobe reviewed the operation, selected an ERP that matched how the business worked, and managed the implementation through go-live.

Today, job management, field data, time tracking, and inventory run through one integrated platform.

Some business decisions and interactions should always keep a human in the loop.

That includes things like:
- difficult customer complaints
- sensitive employee concerns
- major contract and business decisions
- high-value purchase approvals
- handling a serious service failure
- resolving disputes between teams

Automation can still help in these situations by collecting information, flagging issues, preparing summaries, routing requests, or suggesting recommendations.

But when judgment, context, or sensitivity can change the outcome, a person should remain part of the decision.

That matters when implementing AI. Businesses need to decide where automation helps, where review is required, and where the final decision should stay human.
