Hey folks 👋

I’m still running my survey this week to learn more about how people actually use data in their businesses - where it gets messy, where it slows things down, and what they wish just worked better.

I’ve had some great conversations and responses so far, but I’m looking for a few more to round things out.

If you deal with reporting, dashboards, or just feel like your team is stuck in spreadsheet chaos - I’d really love your input.

📝 Take the 5-minute anonymous survey

💬 Or shoot me a message and we can chat

Thanks in advance - I’ll be sharing the insights once everything’s in!

😅 I’ve got a quick confession:

As a data professional, I wasn’t making data-driven decisions in my own business.

I’ve been running on assumptions - and now I’m fixing that through real market research.

I made a short video about what I’ve learned, what I’ve changed, and what I’m doing next.

📩 If you know someone who works with data, dashboards, or reporting, feel free to tag them or DM me - I’d love to talk or have them take the updated survey.

Exiting News 🥳

As of today, I'll be partnering with MSV Inc. as the Data Analytics Manager to support a truly one-of-a-kind organization called Rythmia Life Advancement.

Rythmia is a world-renowned life advancement center in Costa Rica that offers transformative ayahuasca retreats. They combine ancient plant medicine with modern healing techniques to help people experience deep personal breakthroughs.

I'll be joining as their Data Analytics Manager, which means I’ll be helping them organize, automate, and analyze their data to improve decision-making, track performance, and support their mission more effectively.

This partnership represents exactly what I envisioned when I started Data Seed - using the power of data to support purpose-driven organizations in making a real impact.

Even though this is a major engagement, I’m still actively working with businesses back home in Saint John. Data Seed remains committed to supporting local companies with smaller-scale projects.

There are some other exciting projects in the pipeline, and I’ll be sharing more as they unfold. For now, I’m just incredibly grateful for this opportunity and looking forward to what’s ahead.

The biggest mistake I see isn’t technical, it’s thinking you can’t keep up. And that’s just not true.

What I see most often is either overconfidence in outdated systems, or a kind of quiet resignation.

Some people assume their current setup is "just working" so they stop paying attention. Others rely on what’s familiar, paper, old spreadsheets, habits or even people that once worked but don’t scale. And over time, they start to believe that keeping up isn’t possible, or that someone else will (or should) do it.

But the truth is, they are doing the right things, just with the wrong tools, or at the wrong speed.

Everything is a system. Once you understand the inputs, learning the new tools is easier than people expect. This means that taking accountability for your data has never been easier.

The more you know about your business, the more you can nurture it by providing the inputs it needs to thrive.

Honestly, we’re in a golden era for learning. You can figure out so much in a short amount of time, if you stay curious.

A lot of small business owners get stuck waiting.

Waiting to clean up their systems.

Waiting for better tools.

Waiting until everything is “ready.”

But here’s the truth: **you don’t need perfect data to make better decisions.**

Most of the time, you already have *enough* to spot patterns, ask good questions, and make small improvements. And those small improvements add up fast.

Don’t let messy data stop you from making progress.

Start with what you’ve got — then refine as you go.

Dashboards are great — but they don’t solve your data problems on their own.

I see it all the time: someone builds a dashboard and expects everything to click. But if the underlying questions aren't clear, or if the data isn’t reliable, a fancy chart won’t fix it.

A dashboard is a tool, not a solution. It should help you:

- Spot what’s changing
- Track what matters
- Make better decisions

But it all starts with *thinking*, not visuals.

Before you build, ask yourself:

**“What am I trying to understand or improve?”**

The clarity comes first. The dashboard comes second.

A lot of people assume data tools are too complicated. Too technical. Not for them.

But most of the time, it’s not about ability, it’s about confidence.

Today’s tools are built to be intuitive.
You don’t need to be a data scientist, you just need to be curious.

A little experimentation goes a long way.
Open the tool. Click around. Break stuff.
That’s how I learn, and honestly? That’s how most people learn.

You already know your business.
All you’re doing is learning a faster way to understand it.

I've talked to lots of small business owners in Saint John over the past couple of months, and have met so many amazing people, but I'm always surprised at the questions I get.

Before I ever reached out to someone, I thought I'd be pitching how AI & Automation tools can help them make decisions, but the most common question I get often times is just simply "what is data analytics?".

So, what exactly is data analytics?

I created this simple visual to break it down step-by-step. Whether you're new to the field or just want a clearer way to explain it to others, this one’s for you.

At its core, data analytics is about breaking down raw data to uncover insights that actually mean something. Think trends, patterns, predictions — the stuff that helps people and businesses make smarter decisions.

📊 Curious how this ties into real business decisions? Let's talk!

Planting Seeds: Building a Business That Lasts

I’ve been experimenting with my content here 🐦😄

This video was inspired by a magical moment: a bird landing on me while I was out filming. I didn’t catch it on camera — I was too busy being startled (adrenaline definitely kicked in).

But once I settled down and looked around, I noticed something: there were birds everywhere, almost like they were waiting for me. I like to come prepared for moments like this, so I had seeds and peanuts in my bag — just in case.

It reminded me how often in life and business, the most unexpected opportunities show up when you do. When you’re consistent. When you’re ready.

As always, everything in my life seems to relate somehow — so I hope you enjoy this little reflection.

In a world obsessed with speed and scale, this video is a quiet reflection on the value of patience, consistency, and clarity. At Data Seed, we help service-b...

I've been hesitant to post, waiting for the perfect update—some social proof. But the truth is, putting myself out there has been tough. I know I have valuable skills, but building trust and networks from scratch has been humbling.

Starting my own AI & Data Analytics freelance business in 2025 has taught me some uncomfortable lessons:

1️⃣ Cold outreach without a personal touch doesn’t work. Text-based emails & LinkedIn DMs? 0% response rate. Warm referrals, Loom videos, and cold calls are the only things that have worked.

2️⃣ Social proof is changing. Resumes alone don’t cut it anymore. If you make money using a computer, you should be posting what you do—I’m working on that myself.

3️⃣ Shiny object syndrome is real. I spent too much time perfecting a launch instead of focusing on what really brings value.

💡 Progress update:

In February, I set a goal of landing 3 clients—I got 2, but none since.
This week & next, I’ve got a few lead meetings lined up, and I’m excited to pursue them!

I just started sending proposals on Upwork and finally posted my Upwork profile video (check it out below!).

🔜 Next Steps:

✔ Build social proof – Document projects, tutorials, workflows, and share insights.

✔ Keep up cold outreach – But with more personal, value-driven content to back it up.

✔ Get comfortable sharing online – Because visibility = opportunity.

If you’ve made the leap into freelancing or Upwork, I’d love to hear your experiences! Let’s connect.

Update #1 since starting Data Seed!

TLDR;
1. I have secured the first Data Seed customer!
2. My plan for February is to get 3 clients total, and do cold-reach outs to get my next 2.
3. I've learned:
a. My offering is confusing, and needs refinement.
b. High-quality conversations with real people is better than online-research.
c. Don't spend time solving unnecessary problems.

I'd love to hear your feedback on this video or the content! I'm excited to speak to more people and learn more about how people are using their data.

If you know anyone who might be interested in getting some data-driven assistance, please let me know :)
