Another project from the workbench this week!

New Non-modular powersupply swapped in and did a detail while I was in there. Ready to go for more day to day YouTube streaming and other day to day tasks!

On the bench this week and waiting on parts after diag...

3DS... no power.

Battery replaced because Old Nintendo one decided to become Kirby. Check ✅️

Won't activate 3D and audio is all messed up on system start up and cant finish setting up.

New Ribbon cable on the way! Check ✅️

Happy that this restoration is going well. This 3DS was a restoration from Japan that had definitely seen better days and also needed new housing. Going to add homebrew to it once I can get it past initial setup and this unit will be good for a while yet!

The 3DS is such a fun console to work on but it is has its quirks for sure.

If anyone has a restoration they would like done. I am actively seeking out some custom projects to add to the portfolio!

A little more Spring cleaning!

This ole Wiimote wasn't working after being in storage for a long time. Opened it up and immediately saw corrosion. Inspected the board just in case anything else was a miss. looked good other than the contacts so a quick clean up, and... back up and running!

The PS2 is still the king of top selling Video game consoles of all time... with 160 millionish units sold. That. Is. Insane.
Which means you can find the OG Phat Consoles in plenty... and in quite good shape
In turn, making them very affordable. I have seen systems in decent working order going for as low as 40$.

The modding scene for the PS2 has also grown a ton in the last few years. Multiple ways to hook to HDMI displays, Custom software and dashboards (PSBBN from Japan and translated) using the orginal network adapter to hook a modern SSD harddrive and store games digitally... SD memory cards to boot custom firmware and run games right off then, Bluetooth controller support through adapters, Noctua fans to make the system dead quiet...The list goes on!

With modern gaming being as expensive as it is. The PS2 makes a great candidate in 2026 for very affordable gaming with an extensive library of games.

The snows melting finally...

Recently had an OG Xbox 360 come through the workshop with a disc drive that wasn't operating correctly.

Gave it a good detailing while going through my diagnostic and sure enough ended up working as right as rain.

Think a laptop is too old and obsolete to be of use any longer? That isnt always the case. These 2 machines were running Windows 7. Which is no longer supported and hasn't been for a long time. Something that far out of date can be exploited to virus's and harmful malware much, much easier. The hardware itself on these is fully functional, batteries are in decent shape. A dead operating system doesnt mean that a laptop is no longer usable.

I was requested to see if I could make these 2010 era laptops usable again. Thanks to Linux. In this case Linux Mint Lite version. You can breath a good amount of new life into old hardware. These computers would be good internet browsing and Netflix machines. Heck even run a small server on them if you really wanted to. They are a lot more secure to use now on a daily basis than a Windows machine that far out of date. Since this OS is getting modern updates and support. It also looks and feels much like Windows 7 and 10 does.

This is a great way to potentially to save some money if you are not in the market for a new laptop yet.
