🚀 Reflecting on the first six months of Savvy Cobra 🐍💡

As I navigate the journey of entrepreneurship with Savvy Cobra, here are some key takeaways from our initial phase:

Capitalize on Momentum: Starting strong is crucial. Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances, I couldn’t maintain the initial push right after launch. The lesson? When you're driven and motivated, leverage that early energy to secure wins that propel you further. Don’t let the fire dim!

Personal Connections & Networking: In a digital age dominated by ones and zeros, it's easy to forget the power of human connections. Despite our deep dive into virtual worlds and digital marketing, the human element remains essential. Building trust and establishing real connections can make a difference in your business success.

Adaptability is Key: The ability to pivot and adapt to market changes and customer feedback has been invaluable. Staying flexible allows us to meet challenges head-on and adjust our strategies effectively.

Focus on Value, Not Just Aesthetics: As a designer and entrepreneur, I’ve learned the importance of offering substantial value beyond visually appealing designs. Our aim is to create memorable and practical digital experiences that meet our clients' needs first and foremost.

Continuous Learning and Growth: Every day is a learning opportunity. Staying updated with the latest technologies and industry trends is crucial for keeping our offerings relevant and innovative.

"Must be detail-oriented" is a common phrase in job postings in the design industry and most industries that I never really understood and think could be rephrased.

I've always found this saying in the English language very insightful: "The devil is in the details." It could be interpreted as an acknowledgement of the challenges that arise when we delve into the complexities of a project beyond the first glance. However, I happen to see it as a nudge away from getting caught up in the minute things that we tend to obsess about. Because most of the time, that's precisely what it is – a pathological obsession that should be challenged, not encouraged.

When employers mention attention to detail, I believe they are referring to the ability to keep track of all aspects of a project without slips or oversights. I think a better way to think of this would be through the lens of clarity. What You need to stay ahead of all the little things in your work with enough clarity, and less clutter and distraction, leading to more focus.

So, let's try and find a replacement for that phrase, as I feel it references and enables certain obsessive, unhealthy patterns of thinking and behaviour.

In the vast expanse of the digital world, the advice to 'niche down' in business can seem intimidating at first glance. But here's an intriguing perspective I've realized: In an era where billions are connected online, even the smallest niches can hold immense potential.

It's an age where the sheer volume of internet users transforms any fraction of a billion into a significant market. This understanding reshapes how we approach our target audience. No matter how unique, specialized, or unconventional your niche may seem, there is likely a group of interested clients scattered across the globe, just waiting to connect with your services.

As someone who thrives on being a generalist, I appreciate the breadth of possibilities. Yet, the populous nature of our times, combined with ever-increasing interconnectedness, suggests a strategic pivot: identify and cater to your specific market, no matter how niche it might be.

The digital age doesn't limit us; it expands our horizons, offering a global stage for even the most specialized services. And that’s the beauty of today’s interconnected world - there is always someone, somewhere, who is looking for exactly what you have to offer.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

In praise of nerdiness,

There is something very mysterious about what drives people toward different kinds of interests. It's this concealed force that pulls people to various degrees into the most specific of fields.

I'm here to acknowledge the value of people who are simply extraordinarily driven by this force.

It's a special gift for the individual and for the collective and much of the knowledge that has contributed to an easier and more comfortable world is a byproduct of it. So let's not judge or label people based on their connection to this force and celebrate the diversity that defines us and has brought us to where we are.

Are you brave enough to embrace innovation in art?

It's time to explore the power of innovative thinking.

Join the conversation.

Where does our artistic sense come from? Where does art itself come from? Who decides what is beautiful and what isn't? When we ask such questions, it does begin to feel like art can only be relative, and yet most of us recognize a beautiful artistic expression fairly easily.

To take this even further, there are artists and pieces from completely different eras that are universally adored to date. So, can art be relative to the individual or to time?

What about the questions I raised at the start? Without much research, I feel art floats somewhere in the space between timely and individual relativity and universal recognition, leaning closer to relativity.

Individuals develop and acquire a sense of beauty through their culture, environment, and maybe even genetics, and it shapes their perceptions of human beauty, music, visual art, design, and other art forms.

One key takeaway: given the presence of relativity to the era and individual preference, we all need to try and adopt a more open lens to experimental artists and trailblazing innovators who pave the way for the rest and define the emerging artistic sense.

The ability to recognize a defining genius like that early on starts with flexibility and openness to new things. A trait paramount to creativity that we should all have so we can be "on the right side of history," so to speak.

In recent years, I have become increasingly concerned with the meaningfulness of things. There is a concept in Islam of "sciences/knowledge that have no real benefit". It is seen as something that should be recongnized as such and completely avoided.

To me, it's a fascinating concept as to the untrained eye, it would seem counterintuitive for people to pursue something of no real benefit. Interpretations of different applications can vary greatly, but I think the important takeaway is for people to seriously meditate on their academic and professional careers to evaluate the value and utility it brings to humanity. If none were found, it would only make sense to divert our powerful energies into something that contributes to the benefit of humanity.

This is a concept I wrestle with often in my field and always come back to something the prophet has said praising beauty. This is all I need to justify most of my work.

One simple realization that could resolve much of the negative internal or external monologues in people is this: no one can single-handedly alter your state of mind without your complicit permission and unconscious collaboration. The frequent use of terms such as 'toxic' can sometimes reflect challenges in adapting, being flexible, and effectively interacting with others. While these terms can be valid in certain contexts, it's important to self-reflect on our own approaches to communication and relationship-building.

Why is this relevant here? I often hear the words "toxic clients." I will not generalize for now, but it is often the case that people externalize different personal struggles (of which I unrealistically hope we all be rid) onto their clients, the same way it happens between people in everyday relationships. I am clearly no angel, but it helps to be conscious of these things.

A quick example: one logo design client I worked with a while back ended up being very picky and requested many revisions, which could sometimes land him the label of a "toxic client." However, the end result was a stunning logo that would not have otherwise been achieved.

My main point being, embrace flexibility and work on personal spiritual growth, and you will find many "toxic" situations turn into very pleasant opportunities.

(Excuse me for being blunt; I am a bit frustrated today for unrelated reasons.)

Reflections on the current war on Gaza:

Is art, design, or beauty merely an accessory or a luxury of the affluent?

In times of such crude conflict and an instinctive fight for survival, certain things begin to seem not only extravagant but also trivial, and maybe even an unnecessary waste of time. Yes, art is generally a 'nice to have.' But what if—just what if—in the midst of the atrocities and the sheer ugliness of war, beauty becomes all the more relevant, like a candle in the dark, or a rose in a winter storm? What if the most heinous realities create a craving that can only be satisfied with antagonistic beauty?

Although I am privileged not to live in a warzone and am unsure whether this happens to be true, as someone involved in artistic pursuits, it's a nice thought.
