🚨 Cybersecurity Alert: Think Twice Before Using Hotel Wi-Fi

Business travel season is in full swing, but so are cybercriminals.

Security researchers have uncovered a sophisticated campaign where attackers compromised hotel Wi-Fi networks and presented guests with fake browser update prompts. Instead of installing an update, victims unknowingly installed surveillance malware capable of stealing credentials, recording keystrokes, accessing webcams and microphones, and even capturing Microsoft 365 cloud authentication tokens.

At Ginga Technology Solutions, we recommend the following whenever you’re travelling:

✅ Avoid installing software updates while connected to public Wi-Fi.
✅ Use your mobile hotspot whenever possible for business activities.
✅ If you must use hotel Wi-Fi, connect to your company’s VPN before accessing email or sensitive data.
✅ Verify website addresses carefully before signing in, especially Microsoft 365 or banking sites.
✅ Keep your operating system and browser updated before you leave for your trip.
✅ Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on all business accounts.

This attack is particularly concerning because even security-conscious users can be fooled. The malicious prompts appear to come from trusted software, and the compromise begins at the network level rather than through a phishing email.
