Hi! My name is Laura Wagstaff and I am currently a student at the University of Toronto studying kinesiology. I have lived in Shelburne for my entire life and attended both elementary and high school at our local schools. I have gained a passion for sport and physical activity throughout my life, playing sport both inside and outside of school, working as a lifeguard and swimming instructor, serving as my high school’s athletic council president and now pursuing an education in kinesiology with hopes to one day become a Phys. Ed teacher.

Growing up, I was able to grow my love for sport by spending hours outside shooting hoops with my brother after school or playing pick up soccer at the park with my friends. However, the COVID pandemic has presented a much different environment for kids today, with school closures limiting structured physical activity time and access to sports equipment. I’ve chosen to spend a considerable amount of time studying this crisis in school this year, and I’ve truly been shocked and saddened to see the statistics of how drastically youth participation in physical activity has dropped due to the pandemic, a large part of which has been caused by the lack of accessibility to sports programming at school, as not all families have the finances to access sports equipment for their children to use at home.

After much thought and planning, I have come up with Project Play For All. It is my goal to fundraise and collect sports equipment for kids and families in the community facing financial barriers throughout the months of March and April to have the equipment delivered and ready to use for the summer months. I would greatly appreciate both physical donations as well as financial donations that will be used to purchase equipment.

The exact equipment I am looking to collect in new or gently used condition is:

Soccer balls
Footballs
Standard rubber playground balls
Frisbees
Skipping Ropes
Ball pumps
