ESIS is run by a small staff of your friends and neighbors, and as such we are keenly aware of how service outages affect everyone in our community. Recent outages have been caused not by any issue with the physical network which we are well-equipped to manage, but rather by an extremely complex set of circumstances affecting our server, which requires a very specialized set of skills to troubleshoot. ESIS has been working with a consultant to improve server reliability and simplify the server's architecture to make it easier to manage. We have recently hired a new Network Administrator who is working locally with the consultant, and whose concerted efforts have resolved these server-related outages promptly, and taken concrete steps to mitigate the chances of recurrence.

We understand the need for effective communication during these events, and will do our best to provide as much information as possible to the community via social media, as well as by updating our network status on ESIS' telephone system as we have done in the past (when customers call ESIS toll-free at 1-844-776-3747, the network status plays after options 1-3. We are also looking at ways of updating the telephone system so the network status update plays first in the event of an outage).

We deeply appreciate our community members' ongoing support and are dedicated to maintaining and improving the service we provide in every way possible.

Friday the 13th! ESIS is working to troubleshoot a DNS issue which has affected internet service a few times over the past few weeks. We are doing everything we can to fix this issue and ensure that it doesn’t repeat. We appreciate the feedback we’ve received and are grateful to all ESIS subscribers for bearing with us while we work to resolve this issue.

ESIS is seeking a Junior Network Administrator

The East Shore Internet Society (ESIS) is an incorporated not-for-profit internet society formed with the goal of bringing affordable and reliable high-speed internet service to Crawford Bay and surrounding central Kootenay Lake communities on the East Shore.

ESIS is seeking a Network Administrator to work as part of a job shared position, working part-time approximately 24 hours per week. This position has the flexibility to work part remotely, with preference given to a candidate who can work regularly with our team at the Crawford Bay office.

Job Summary
Responsible for designing, organizing, modifying, installing, and supporting a company's computer systems. Designs and supports wireless and fibre-optic networks, Internet and intranet systems, and network segments.

Primary responsibilities
• Support wireless and fibre-optic networks, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems.
• Install and maintain network hardware and software.
• Analyze and isolate issues.
• Monitor networks to ensure security and availability to specific users.
• Evaluate and modify system's performance.
• Identify user needs.
• Determine network and system requirements.
• Maintain integrity of the network, server deployment, and security.
• Ensure network connectivity throughout the company's LAN/WAN infrastructure is on par with technical considerations.
• Design and deploy networks.
• Perform network address assignment.
• Assign routing protocols and routing table configuration.
• Assign configuration of authentication and authorization of directory services.
• Maintain network facilities in individual machines, such as drivers and settings of personal computers as well as printers.
• Maintain network servers such as file servers, VPN gateways, intrusion detection systems.
• Administer servers, desktop computers, printers, routers, switches, firewalls, phones, personal digital assistants, smartphones, software deployment, security updates and patches.
