The Bridgestone Canadian Superbike Championship is pleased to provide a positive update on GP Bikes Pro Superbike competitors # 74 Zoltan Frast and # 99 Alex Michel following their incident in race one on Sunday, August 9 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
On lap six of race one in the feature Pro Superbike class, Frast Racing BMW rider Zoltan Frast and Canadian Kawasaki Motors rider Alex Michel collided entering turn eight while battling for third place, forcing a red flag stoppage and subsequent end to the race.
Both competitors received immediate on-site medical attention from official series doctors Ryan Burrill and Steve Walker as well as CTMP emergency medical staff. Both were later transported to nearby hospital for further treatment and evaluation.
Thankfully, both riders were discharged from hospital Sunday evening and have since returned home.
Michel confirmed on social media that he has suffered a broken collarbone and will begin his recovery towards racing again in 2027.
“Fortunately both of us were running the airbag vest, which probably prevented a lot more injuries,” Michel said in the post.
Frast has not publicly disclosed his injury status, but was able to return to the circuit on Sunday evening under his own power after being discharged from hospital.
Michel, a contender for this year’s Brooklin Cycle Racing Pro Rookie of the Year award, finished fifth in the overall championship in his first full Superbike season, scoring a best finish of fourth in Calabogie.
Frast had been making just his second national appearance of the season after a podium at his home race in Grand Bend, finishing 11th in the final standings.
Series staff would like to wish both riders a full and speedy recovery.
