Stock Cooler... Not Doing Its Job?

I often find myself wondering who comes up with the designs for prebuilt PCs at big-box stores. I'm sure "how to save money" is always a priority for them, but why skimp on CPU cooling? Take this HP Omen PC, for example. On paper, it had solid specs, but its proprietary Ryzen motherboard didn’t have the typical AMD bracket holes. Instead, it used the same heatsink as Intel systems! To make matters worse, the cooler had no copper and only made contact with the CPU in a circular spot, leaving a chunk of the Ryzen chip uncovered.

There were other issues with the PC, too, but in the end, upgrading the case, motherboard, and switching to a Noctua cooler did the trick. Temps dropped from 87°C to 56°C under load after running Prime95 for 30 minutes.

A pretty good outcome, if I do say so myself. :)

Few months back I put this little thang together for Chris. He needed a machine that can rock 3+ monitors at high res for his online consulting business that required tons of multitasking performance! We wanted minimal RGB, focusing on power, low noise and lookin' good.
