April is earth month and I am participating in the Living with the Land drawing challenge. Here is Week 1 which incorporate mountains, an insect (bees), pop of sunny yellow, and air as the element of nature.

For this illustration I wanted it to align with the work I have been doing on infographics – using a sketchy hand-drawn style, trying some new brushes, working with layering elements, and telling a story.

I thought of how I could include the above elements with an earth month message. I chose the Western Bumble Bee as the focus as they are experiencing significant decline due to habitat loss, pesticides, and disease.

A little Monday doodle – taking some time to draw and think about the kind of work I want to do. I have been so fortunate to work on a variety of projects this year that have made me grow in ways I have dreamed about for a long time. Learning to say no to things that just don’t align with who I want to be personally and professionally. Allowing more of the projects I want to do (that light me up) to come my way. ✨

As 2025, the Year of the Snake, comes to a close I’m embracing the beauty of shedding what no longer serves me … old doubts, limiting thoughts, and creative hesitation. This year pushed me to grow, learn new skills, and step more fully into my work as a designer.

✨ New project highlight ✨

I had the pleasure of designing this custom anniversary t-shirt for Little Valley Collision as they celebrate 45 years in business on Vancouver Island.

The design combines elements based on their history in the automotive world with a vintage hotrod, and an island landscape reflective of their home. A single eagle is placed over the mountains as a nod to the eagle wings in their classic logo.

My process started with a rough sketch of my idea to establish a layout. I then created a digital drawing in Adobe Fresco of the elements based on photographic examples supplied by the client. Once that illustration was ready I brought it into Illustrator where I incorporated the typography and prepared the final design for print.

I’m back at it after a busy summer away!

I’m so grateful that I have a career that allows me to be on the go with my kids during their breaks and work remotely when needed.

Living away from both sides of our family means holidays are spent travelling to visit family - which we love to do and get to spend time on beautiful Vancouver Island, Hornby Island and England.

Now with the kids back in school and a quiet home office to myself (other than Luna sleeping beside me) it’s time to focus on work. And put all those daydreams about my business into motion. ✨
