I watched an interview with Bob Dylan recently, and one sentence kept circling in my head:

“An artist has got to be careful never really to arrive at a place where he thinks he’s at somewhere. You always have to realize that you’re constantly in a state of becoming.”

It struck me because the pressure today isn’t just to create good work. It’s to become known for a particular kind of work and then keep producing it forever.

We celebrate consistency as if it’s the highest creative virtue. Consistency has obvious value. It builds recognition and trust.

But there comes a point where consistency quietly becomes self preservation.

You stop asking, Where is the work taking me? You start asking, What will people expect from me?

Those questions lead to very different careers.

The artists, founders, and companies that leave a lasting mark aren’t committed to an identity. They’re committed to the work. They allow the work to change their thinking, raise their standards, and pull them into places they couldn’t have predicted.

That evolution often looks inconsistent from the outside.

It isn’t. It’s commitment in its purest form. I think this reaches far beyond branding. Branding is simply where it becomes visible.

The real question is whether we’re building an identity to protect or following the work wherever it leads.

Did this resonate? Let’s build up your brand.

The most invisible brands aren’t the ones with bad design.

They’re the ones built by women who are extraordinary at what they do and completely lost in how to say it. Not because they lack talent, or for a lack of trying. Because somewhere between the checklist and the algorithm and the advice and the noise, they stopped building from themselves and started building for everyone else.

That’s not a brand problem. That’s a translation problem.

And no “follow these steps” list is going to fix it. No trend. No template. No “post three times a week and use these hashtags.” The work isn’t out there. It never was. It’s in excavating what’s already within you.

It’s in you. The woman who is awkward sometimes. Who has strong opinions. Who can be a little shy. Who has been building around yourself instead of from yourself.

You are the brand.
You just haven’t translated that yet.

Ignore the noise.

The noise around you,
the opinions, the trends, the “you should really be doing it this way”, none of it is your brand. Your brand is you. Unapologetic, specific, and entirely yours to protect.

And yes, AI is part of this conversation. So was the internet. So was the smartphone. Every shift in technology made people panic about being replaced. What actually happened? The ones who learned the tool won. The ones who feared it fell behind.

AI doesn’t build your brand. It can’t replicate your instinct, your perspective, your point of view. It’s a tool. Use it like one.

If you’re ready to stop collecting approval and build the brand that’s actually been inside you this whole time, let’s build it.

I partner with bold North American women entrepreneurs, artists, and photographers to launch unapologetic websites in just 7 days.

Stop asking for permission. Take Action!
