TselaPay Digitizing Botswana’s Public Transit Payments

30/10/2025

A country is only as good as its public transport system. Movement is progress, and when people stop moving easily, everything slows down.

We’re building TselaPay to shape how Botswana moves.

Wallet? At home.
Phone? On 1%.
But that little green TselaPay card?
Always in your pocket. Always ready.

Twenty passengers. Twenty different coins.
A pocket full of metal, a dashboard full of notes.
By the end of the day, who knows what’s missing?
TselaPay helps drivers see their earnings, clearly.

Ever stopped to think about the people behind the wheel? The ones who wake up before sunrise, navigate the streets all day, and still take home barely enough to cover fuel, food, and the basic costs of running their business?

Many of them take home less than P100 a day after paying for necessities. Over 80% drive vehicles that aren’t insured. Most are unbanked.

These aren’t just statistics. These are fathers, uncles, brothers, and sons. People working tirelessly to put food on their tables and keep our city moving. And yet, the system offers them little support, little recognition, and almost no way to grow.

We can do better. That's why we're building TselaPay. We can build a system that gives drivers power over their work. A record of every hard-earned p**a. Protection for the money they make. A path to grow their businesses safely and sustainably. Every tap should bring dignity, every trip should build opportunity.

Its not just about payments. It’s about building a system that is fair, safe, and transparent. For drivers. For commuters. For our country.

Monday morning.
Someone’s got P200.
The driver’s got no change.

You already know how this story ends. 😅

We are rewriting that, one tap at a time.

Everyday, hundreds of thousands of Batswana line up to pay cash for trips. It’s convenient, until it’s not.

Lost coins. Delays. No change.

That’s why we’re building TselaPay. A cashless fare system for Botswana’s entire public transport system.

One tap. One trip. One Botswana moving forward.

When are you joining the movement?
