Happy Holidays Whanau!!
We will be closing for the year to get some rest from today Friday 19th December 2025 and we will re-open on Monday 19th January 2026.
In 2025:
Through funding and support from Department of Internal Affairs, Eastern & Central Community Trust and EIT respectively for our one year job readiness training programme we recruited, retooled and upskilled a total of 18 local community members in Tolaga Bay(6), Ruatoria (6) and Wairoa (6) to empower them into holistically employable individuals that can self employ, or be employed by other existing employers or by Slash for Cash.
We consulted and got written support from 13 out of 15 Iwi ( 8 ) and Hapu (7) in the Tairawhiti and Wairoa regions for our resource consent application.
We secured two 15 year Global Discharge to Air Permits and Resource Consents from Gisborne District Council and Hawkes Bay Regional Council.
Through support from Air New Zealand, The Good Carbon Farm ,Tairāwhiti Enviroschools and EIT respectively we were able to support Maara kai education in 10 schools and 1 community garden by using biochar fertilizer as a teaching tool for climate resilience, soil science, and kai sovereignty.
We sequestered a total of between 5.52 and 8.28 tonnes of CO2 emissions from 1.28 tonnes of slash through our school and community gardens carbon sink initiative.
We sequestered between 36 and 54 tonnes of CO2 emissions from 18 tonnes of slash through our mobile kiln burns in Tolaga Bay, Mahia and Wairoa.
We directly impacted 301 people and reached a joint total of close to 500 people in Tolaga Bay, Ruatoria, Wairoa, Mahia, Te Reinga, Hicks Bay, Gisborne, other parts of New Zealand and from across the World through our kaupapa.
We closed off the year as New Zealand's Transformational Leadership Award Winners and we secured a grant from Trust Tairāwhiti to help us go to market in 2026.
We thank you all for being a part of our journey this year and we look forward to your continued esteemed support in the coming year and beyond!!
