Over two productive days, partners reviewed project progress, shared technical updates, and strengthened collaboration to advance ARMADILLO’s mission of developing innovative detection, monitoring, and data integration solutions for a safer society.

📍 On 25 September, joined the ARIEN Stakeholders Meeting in Maribor, Slovenia, hosted by the Institute for Corporative Security Studies (ICS).

The meeting brought together leading EU projects—ARIEN, , , , and —to discuss innovation, collaboration, and ways to build safer societies.

We were delighted to exchange views with colleagues from across Europe and highlight how ARMADILLO’s tools are supporting law enforcement in tackling drug-facilitated crimes.

📢 The project was showcased at the 14th International Conference on Instrumental Methods of Analysis (IMA-2025) in Kefalonia!

Our partners presented breakthrough research on silver-coated nanostructured boehmite surfaces for Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS), enabling more accurate detection of GHB in beverages and biological fluids.

This innovation strengthens ARMADILLO’s mission to equip law enforcement with portable, rapid, and reliable forensic tools to combat drug-facilitated crimes.

📢 The project showcased at the 5th International Sociological Association Forum 2025 in July!

🎤 Our partners at Innovation, represented by Eri Eleftheria Papadopoulou and Georgios Chatzichristos, presented groundbreaking research on LGBTQ+ bias in forensic evidence related to sexual violence cases.

🧬 The study revealed:
🔍 Gendered and systemic biases in how forensic evidence is handled
💊 The overlooked role of GHB in assaults against gay and q***r men
⚖️ A lack of inclusive forensic protocols and legal gaps

We also proposed gender-sensitive reforms and inclusive training for EU professionals to ensure access to justice for LGBTQ+ victims.

🚨 The project was showcased at the booth of our sister project during the Security Research Event ( 2025), the biggest DG HOME gathering for security innovation in Europe.

🤝 Both projects sparked fruitful discussions around new solutions to detect GHB in real time and support law enforcement in the fight against drug-facilitated crimes.
