Dear online community,
Less than a year ago we were in Croatia building things, spending time together, “enjoying our youth” amid sunny days and late nights by the sea, summer flings, old friendships and new ones. Now, less than a year after that perfectly ordinary summer, bombs are falling on our friends’ heads in Lebanon. It is difficult and deeply saddening to find the words to convey the gravity of this situation, the sense of helplessness felt by those of us who can only watch from afar. It is even sadder that a year ago “we couldn’t stay silent” about Palestine and Ukraine and alas here we are again. It is sad and absurd that these posts: “Look! There’s a war!” are becoming an annual tradition, and could easily be monthly, weekly, or daily. It’s absurd to think about organizing educational events and worrying about fuel costs while our friends are losing their homes, family members, and friends.
