EarthByte EarthByte is a research group building a four-dimensional virtual Earth model that links the deep Earth to surface processes and environmental change.

Research is conducted in topics as diverse as basin evolution, geodynamic controls on ore deposit formation, continental deformation, formation of Australian opal, causes of long-term sea-level change and Phanerozoic plate tectonic reconstructions. The EarthByte Group leads the development of open-source plate reconstruction software, GPlates (www.gplates.org). GPlates enables the interactive mani

pulation of plate-tectonic reconstructions and the visualization of geodata through geological time, and it facilitates interoperability of plate tectonic data and models with geodynamic computing services for applied and fundamental research purposes.

EarthByte Seminar Alert! Join us on October 11th, 2023, for a deep dive into the fascinating world of geology and tectonics with Dr. Jianping Zhou from Ocean University of China.

In this talk, Jianping will delve into the complexities of the geological history of eastern NE Asia, exploring how multiple tectonic events have shaped the region over millions of years. Through detrital geochronology and low-temperature thermochronological data, he will shed light on the shallow-deep coupling process of tectonic evolution in this area.

Talk Title: "Differential Uplift Triggered Meso-Cenozoic Basin-and-Range System: Evidence from Thermochronology in Eastern NE Asia"
