Scam alert!

SCAM ALERT! AGL Energy is warning people about a fake energy bill email. Don't click on any of the links in the email or in the online bill. Delete immediately.

All legitimate AGL electricity bills:

1. Come from the sender address [email protected]. Any deviation on this address may be a hoax email; and

2. Include your address and account number in the email body. If it does not contain these details, it may be a hoax email.

The ACCC is warning people to be careful about who they ‘friend’ online this Valentine’s Day with stats showing people are most likely to be preyed upon by dating and romance scammers on social media sites.

The ACCC have released the scam statistics for December, wrapping up 2017. Starting with the good news, of the 2,719 reports of email scams, only $887,963 was lost, which is low given the number of reports.
Now for the not so good news, the rate of reports with financial loss has skyrocketed to 12.8% from 10.6% in November and 8.0% in October. This indicates that the scammers are becoming more elaborate in there scams so we all need to be extra vigilant when online.

In the spirit of being still early in the year let us set a new years resolution to bring these numbers down and keep everyone safer online in 2018.

Never give out personal information online if you don't know and trust whoever you are giving the information to. Even then it is always a good idea to verify them and ensure they are who they say they are.

Every action (or inaction in this case) has consequences. Failing to keep your software up-to-date has the unfortunate effect of leaving you vulnerable to cyber criminals.

That's not a fantastic password. A good password should contain both upper and lower case letters, a special character like @ or &, and numbers.

SCAM ALERT! Fake Netflix emails are going around. Always be sure to check the email address emails like this are coming from, especially if they do not use your name at the beginning of the email.
