Another successful launch of our GSL prepaid loyalty card program at Wenty Leagues. Members were excited to be invited to sign up to “Wenty Rewards”, a solution that converts loyalty points earned with the club onto an eftpos prepaid card, allowing patrons to decide how to reward themselves. Congratulations to Glenn Kovacs, CEO of Wenty Leagues, Peter Walford, COO of Next Payments, and Danielle Rayner, Senior Business Development, on a great partnership!

Today would have been the first day of the AGE 2020. Regretfully this significant industry event has been cancelled, another effect of COVID-19 that has impacted our industry and broader community so deeply. Despite the cancellation of the event, and the problems many are still facing, we take comfort in knowing that many venues and businesses around Australia and New Zealand have not only managed to re-open, but are also trading at pre COVID-19 levels. It's a great result and a testament to the the hard working and committed people within our industry. Next Payments continue to support venues across Australia and New Zealand with premium cash management solutions and leading customer service. Even though you can't see us at the AGE this year, you can still take the opportunity to speak with our Sales Professionals about improving efficiencies with your cash management, plus learn more about our reconciliation and business intelligence software. We are still here to help and are deploying hardware and software solutions everyday.

The Reserve Bank and Australian government have called on banks to offer retailers lower fees for tap-and-go payments, which have risen during the COVID-19 crisis, by offering least-cost routing to merchants. Routing payments to networks operated by Visa and Mastercard are often more expensive than using the domestic Eftpos network and banks are not offering to send tap-and-go payments down the cheapest payment network, costing retailers an estimated $550 million a year in additional transaction fees. RBA Head of Payments Tony Richards has stated Australians are entitled to a surcharge free way of paying for goods and "paying by cash is generally the way to avoid a surcharge". Cash is reliable, secure and surcharge free. Save money on fees and make cash your first choice of payment!

Our investigation into areas seeing an increase in ATM transactions has found that communities in regional or remote locations require safe, secure, and reliable access to cash during COVID-19. Vulnerable members of the community without access to local bank branches find themselves further marginalised and left behind without access to the cash infrastructure that supports them. Next Payments deploys Premium ATMs throughout metro, regional and remote areas to ensure that all members of our community have access to cash and can check their bank balance.

With a trend towards digital payments, banks are now armed with personal information about you, your spending habits, lifestyle choices and much more. With this new level of access, banks are making assessments about your eligibility for loans and credit. Simple things like ordering from Uber Eats, having the occasional bet or buying a round of drinks at the pub can have you unfairly categorised as irresponsible with money and increase the cost of your loans, or see you rejected entirely! Cash is safe, reliable and private. Pay cash and keep in control.

Next Payments has previously warned that thieves have been targeting wallets for tap-and-go cards, or as we say “tap-and-steal". Police are concerned as theft and fraudulent card activity has risen as a result of the economic downturn from COVID-19 and the recent increase in the limit for PayPass/payWave payments to $200. Just last night, a Next Payments employee’s car was broken into and we suspect the culprits were looking for tap-and-go cards. Be wary with your cards. Cash is a tangible form of payment and the chance of falling prey to cash theft or fraud is extremely low. Cash is private, secure, reliable and surcharge free.

Next Payments are trialling hand sanitiser units on our ATMs to assist customers with safety and good personal hygiene. So far, we have received nothing but positive feedback from merchants and customers, with the sanitiser dispensers being used regularly, further encouraging ATM usage. Next Payments are also continuing work with cash providers to ensure cash in our ATMs is sanitised and that all units are cleaned regularly. The Royal Australian Mint, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, The World Health Organisation and many medical experts and scientists confirm that the chance of contracting COVID-19 from cash handling is low. The best prevention to COVID-19 is washing your hands regularly.
