How to choose a scoreboard - Part 1

Digit Board or Video Board?

The first decision when choosing a scoreboard is whether you go digit board or video screen. For scoring purposes, there's not much difference, but video screens allow you to expand the use for the board to streaming, advertisting, sponsorship deals and events.

Digit Boards are a low cost, low resolution video board, which are ideal for displaying numbers but not logos or pictures.

Video screens give much more clarity and the ability to show sponsors logos, streaming and replays but are more expensive to install initially.

Just completed this scoreboard in NT, from enquiry to installation in 2 weeks!

The 3m x 2m LED videoboard uses our SVI software - our proprietary software that allows scoring, advertising, team names, stats, video playback and much more. We also were able to reuse the existing frame - allowing the client to save money.

We are often asked: "What is the best scoreboard?"

Well, the best scoreboard is not the biggest or the most advanced one.
It is the one that fits YOUR venue best.

- A SCHOOL may need clear scoring, strong visibility, and something simple to operate on game day.

- A LOCAL CLUB may want scoring, sponsor visibility, and a board that adds more presence around the ground.

- A SPORTING COMPLEX may need a larger display, more flexibility, or a setup that can work across multiple sports and events.

That is why the right question is not, what is the best board?
It is. What does this venue need the board to do?

Before you commit to a sports lighting contractor, you can ask simple questions that assure you that they actually know what they're doing.

Not just:
“How much?”
Not just:
“How soon?”

Ask this, too.

- What is being checked before the install starts?
- Are the existing poles actually suitable?
- Have current light levels been measured?
- What is shaping the design?
- Compliance? Budget? Power? Site constraints? Nearby properties?
- What's included in the warranty, and what's not included?
- How many similar projects like this have you done before, and where are they?

That is where successful sports lighting projects separate themselves from failed ones.

The fittings are only one part of the story. The thinking before they go up matters just as much.

A lot can go wrong when the early questions are rushed.
A lot goes right when the right questions are asked early.

So if a sports lighting upgrade is on the cards, start with the questions that shape the job properly. It will save time, cost, and headaches later.

A strong sports lighting result for this hockey club in NT.

FROM INSTALL TO THE FINISHED RESULT.

These images show both the behind-the-scenes work and the completed project.

The system uses 8 folding poles and keeps the setup efficient at 3 lights per pole, while still delivering a comfortable 500 lux average across the venue.

For anyone planning a sports lighting upgrade, this is the kind of detail worth paying attention to. Pole configuration, fixture count, and average lux levels shape the end result far more than most people realise.

This project is a good example of what happens when the lighting design is done properly from the start - built on smart design and practical ex*****on.
