Sunday 8 March is International Women’s Day.

This year’s UN theme, Balance the Scales, calls for more inclusive and accessible justice for women and girls around the world.

At Deepend, one of our guiding values is - and we try to turn that into action. So this week we asked the team to do a wardrobe audit and donate corporate and casual workwear for a clothing drive.

Because something as simple as a blazer, a dress or a pair of shoes can help another woman walk into an interview feeling confident and ready for what’s next.

What a quarter. What a team.

At our latest Sync & Sip, we took time to celebrate the goals we smashed in Q3 and set our sights on how we’re going to close out the year with intention and energy.

Our teams across design, development and strategy are actively experimenting with AI, testing what it can do, what it can’t, and how to leverage it responsibly. The benefits are becoming real, the pitfalls are enlightening, and the learning is invaluable.

These sessions are more than just a check-in. They're a moment to reflect, realign, and reconnect - with our work, our values, and each other.

Here’s to finishing 2024 strong - with purpose, curiosity and a whole lot of collaboration.

Rodney is our Frontend Lead Developer who brings a quiet calmness to every project. An avid cyclist, lover of black and all-round team player, he keeps the code - and the culture - running smoothly.

How long have you been working at Deepend?
I’ve been at Deepend for nearly four years now!

What’s your role and what does that look like day-to-day?
I am a frontend developer, sometimes dabbling on some backend code. The business moves quickly, so there’s a lot of collaboration and context switching throughout the day but its pretty normal and I enjoy the energy that brings. No two days are the same.

What’s your favourite part of the job?
The variety of work. Some people enjoy working on one long-term project for months at a time, but I prefer the change of pace. I might be building something from scratch one week, refining and making updates on another project. Keeps things fresh.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I try and avoid the weekend crowds. You’ll usually find me digging through second-hand vinyl or at home doing some bike maintenance before heading out for a ride. Evenings and weeknights are generally more chill, kicking back with a coffee and reading or watching some YouTube / obscure world movies.

What’s the best advice you have for someone who wants to join the Digital Agency industry?
Agency work can be unpredictable, fast-paced and full-on, but that’s part of what makes it rewarding. You’ll often learn more in a few months than you might in a year somewhere else. Don’t be afraid to dive into something you’ve never done before. Agency life gives you plenty of chances to do exactly that. In a team environment, attitude is just as important as your technical skills.

This September, for Mental Health Awareness Month, the Deepend Group team came together for morning tea - sharing home-baked goodies, plenty of laughs, and most importantly, a moment to check in with each other.
For us, it’s not just about the big initiatives - it’s also the simple things, like asking “R U OK? ”, not just today but everyday, and creating space to connect.
Together, we believe in building a culture where mental health is supported, celebrated, and never overlooked.
