🐎 FLAT STRAP UPDATE - WHAT WE’RE WORKING ON & WHAT’S COMING NEXT 🐎
There is a LOT happening behind the scenes with Flat Strap at the moment, and we wanted to give everyone a bit of an update on what we’re building and where we’re heading.
Flat Strap is being developed to make life easier for both clubs and competitors - less paperwork, less double handling, less time sitting behind a laptop after an event, and more information available in one place.
Features currently available ✅
✅ Online nominations and payments
Competitors will be able to nominate online and pay directly to the club and upload their payment receipt.
✅ Membership management
Clubs will be able to manage memberships, competitor details and horse information within the system.
✅ Automatic draws
Draws can be generated at the touch of a button, including rider and horse spacing to help prevent competitors being drawn too close together.
✅ Times, results, divisions and payouts
Flat Strap is being built to calculate results, divisions and payouts using the rules set by the club or association.
✅ Competitor and horse records
Results and earnings will follow each horse and competitor, creating a history that can be viewed over time.
✅ Lifetime horse earnings
One of the features we are really excited about is being able to keep track of a horse’s earnings rather than trying to piece everything together from old results.
✅ Horse management
Flat Strap won’t just be an event program. Riders will also be able to keep important horse information together, including farrier, dental, vet and vaccination records and reminders.
✅ Event calendars and notifications
Keep track of upcoming events, nominations, appointments and important reminders all in the one place.
Some of the features we are currently working on include:
⏱️ ELECTRONIC TIMER INTEGRATION
This is one of the biggest areas we are currently developing.
We are working towards integrating Flat Strap directly with electronic timing systems so that, instead of someone manually typing every time into the program, the time can come directly from the timer.
The goal is for the timekeeper to be able to confirm the competitor, add any penalties if required, and then have that information flow through to the results, divisions, payouts and competitor records.
We have already been working on integration with Arena Gear, and we are also looking at support for other commonly used timing systems.
🏆 Arena Records - Season & All-Time Records
This is another feature we are really excited about.
For arenas where the same size pattern is set consistently, Flat Strap will be able to keep a record of the fastest times run at that arena.
We’re working on both:
👉 Season Arena Records - the fastest time recorded at that arena during the current season.
👉 All-Time Arena Records - the fastest recorded time at that arena across all Flat Strap results.
This means clubs will be able to recognise when a competitor breaks an arena record, and riders will be able to see the benchmark they are chasing.
Because arena records only mean something when the pattern is comparable, this feature will be designed for arenas that run the same measured pattern each time.
Over time, this will also create a valuable history of an arena - showing record holders, horses, riders, times and when those records were set.
And this is only the beginning.
Flat Strap is being built from the perspective of people who actually run events. We know how much work goes into nominations, draws, memberships, results, payouts and everything else that happens before, during and after an event.
Our aim is simple:
👉 Make running events easier for volunteers.
👉 Make entering events easier for competitors.
👉 Keep horse and rider information together.
👉 Reduce double handling and human error.
👉 Give clubs a system that actually works the way equine events work.
Sugar City Barrel Racers is the first club putting Flat Strap through its paces, and we’ll continue developing and improving it from real-world use and feedback.

Flat Strap is growing into something much bigger than an event-entry system, and we’re very excited about what is coming.
