Joining the IEMs party

Honest confession: I used to think earphones were earphones. Then someone handed me a pair of IEMs. Now I can’t go back.

IEMs (In-Ear Monitors) were built for musicians and audio engineers, but they’ve gone mainstream, and for good reason. You start hearing parts of your favourite songs you’ve never noticed before. The bass line underneath. The breath before the vocal. The reverb on the guitar.

It’s kind of annoying, actually. Now every regular earbud sounds like listening through a pillow.
If you’re into music at all: whether that’s your morning commute playlist or full album listening sessions on the couch, IEMs are worth knowing about.
