AI was the big topic at Comms Connect Melbourne. Dan Winson opened with his keynote on building for agents, not chatbots. His point: AI has evolved, so the way we design workflows, manage risk and build products has to change with it. Lots of good conversations followed, which is always the best sign.

Dan then joined a really strong panel on AI in critical comms alongside Dayle Stevens OAM (Telstra), David D’Souza (Powercor), Craig Parnham (NSW Telco Authority) and Louise Francis (). Thanks all for a candid and practical discussion.

1. Make sure workers can call for help outside mobile coverage
2. Give every safety alert an owner
3. Know who’s driving each vehicle
4. Plan for missed lone worker check-ins
5. Test your emergency response from start to finish

Vehicle incidents cause 41% of work-related deaths in Australia, according to the latest Safe Work Australia figures. Most of these steps need a tested plan, not new spending.
