This is my first time curating an art exhibition and I’m so grateful to Joanna O'Toole for mentoring me and Newcastle Art Space, Australia for having me as this year’s mentee curator in the NAS Mentorship Program.
We had our first meeting with all 24 mentees and mentors at the start of 2026 and a strong theme of creative energy and collaboration became clear to me. Drawing on my graphic design training from Uni I felt I needed to capture this feeling in the exhibition design and name for our show.
Thus Synergy was born! Read more below ✨
Synergy is the theme and title of this year’s Newcastle Art Space Mentorship Exhibition—a celebration of the transformative power of creative connection. Derived from the Greek word synergos, meaning “working together,” synergy reflects the idea that when people combine their talents, ideas and experiences, they can achieve far more together than they could alone.
Collaboration has been at the heart of this year’s mentorship journey, bringing creatives together through shared learning, support and creative exchange. Together, we joined the program with a desire to learn, share knowledge, and grow while inspiring one another.
The exhibition Synergy reflects the connections, conversations and discoveries made along the way. Emerging from this collaborative experience is an exhibition filled with energy, creativity and passion.
It’s been a pleasure getting to know all of the artists above and watching their work come to life over this past year. It’s going to be a fantastic exhibition at University of Newcastle Galleries
I hope to see you there 💙
