The Computer History of Australia
This is a new series from the creator of the 'State of Electronics' series - Karl von Moller. If you have watched any of the State of Electronics series you will know the quality of the work that Karl does, including the brilliant videography, composition and story telling.

The Computer History of Australia is to be a 17 Episode series and there are 2 Episodes available already.

However, and here is the call to action, Karl needs some assistance.

From his GoFundMe page :

" We need your help to tell these stories for the purpose of buying the rights to use stock and or archival footage held by individuals, companies and organisations who deal in licenseable footage approximately $500 per episode. Some more others may be less depending on the length. While all effort has been made to negotiate or waiver these fees, many of these organisations will not supply the required footage without some form of payment. The State of Electronics channel provides all the information for free and there is no return from Youtube that amounts to anything tangible to help with this problem, so we are now appealing for help from the community to solve this issue. Anything you can do will help record and replay the Computer History of Australia for all to see. "

To be sure, times are tough for a lot of people right now, but even the smallest of donations can help this really important project be all that it can be. If you have seen and appreciated Karl's work and want to see this really important story fully realised, please consider donating to help it get there.

We'd like to take a moment to wish everyone a very happy festive season and thank you for your support over the last year.

2025 is shaping up to be very exciting with the release of our 2 new models early in the year. We really can't wait to get these ready to launch - it's getting very close with the major components being ordered and production board testing underway.

Microbee Technology will be closed from C.O.B. 20th Dec, and the online store will be put into 'Catalogue Mode' meaning that it then disallows purchases to be made during our shutdown period.

Closure dates : Friday 20th December '24 -> Monday 6th January 2025
Also, during the week of 6th Jan -> 13th Jan, the shop will be open limited hours, so call before you pop in. The online store will start accepting orders again on the 6th Jan.

So, have a very enjoyable Christmas, and a safe, happy & prosperous new year.

A lot of work has been done over the last month on our upcoming Microbee models including testing of the fully upscaled video HDMI output. We've started ordering critical components including key caps sets for both the original 64 key keyboard layout and the new 98 key layout.
Follow along as we get closer to release in our forum thread :

For those playing along with yesterday's 'What's in the crate' post,
the answer is of course, a new SMD pick and place machine.

Most of you know Microbee Technology for our retro tech and are looking forward to our 2 new kit computers we have under development. However, retro tech is not the only thing we offer.

There are 3 main parts to our offerings :
* Retro Tech
* Product design services (from concept to prototype &
full production), and
* SMD & Through hole product assembly services.

We have been expanding our assembly service work over the last few years and have been producing close to 1000 [small] PCBs a month for various clients.

This is our second Pick and Place machine, and while still a smaller machine compared to the large assembly houses, it will add both greater speed and accuracy of placement. This machine complements our first machine very nicely. We have plans to further expand and enhance our assembly service capabilities but this is an important step right now. Additionally, it will be used to manufacture the small FPGA module in our up-coming kit computers.

So, if you have a product concept that you would like to see turned into a working product, or already have designs that you need manufactured here in Australia, talk to Microbee Technology.

No bees or cats (Shrodinger or otherwise) were harmed in the creation of this post. :)

One of 2 new kit computers under active development, and due for release in the coming months.
Greatly improved graphics & colour, UpScaled video output as standard (no need for an external upscaler or 15Khz capable monitor). Boots from SDcard. Z80 running at 10Mhz, and 68000 running at 66Mhz.
You can read all about the progress on our user forum in a dedicated topic (and you don't have to be a member to read it, but feel free to join).
