Had the aim of finishing this sketch before flying out tomorrow. In the end it was so much nicer to let the aim fall through my fingers.

The lambs echo as the sun paints gold around their fluffy coats. It’s time to shuffle out of bed, ignore the cold, and waddle into the kitchen. We’ll make a warm piece of toast with provincial jam and a pot of tea or coffee while you gaze out of Gran’s Window. She was a kind woman and would be glad to share the view.

Daylight Saving has struck as Spring politely asks Winter to exit, so you soak up that extra bit of sun before dinner. You walk the cattle dogs, wander to the shops for a loaf of fresh bread, maybe pick up the kids or say hi to the neighbours and stop for an unplanned snack. Routine can make the days seem like they’re on repeat, but suddenly the small shift in schedule helps sparkle them with difference. A sunny evening wander through The Burbs shines new light on the daily grind – a gift!

It takes a special kind of strength, and lots of practice, to get up at the crack of dawn and jump into icy waters, but women do it daily. The winter makes the days short, but the houses are warm, and there is pea soup for dinner and coffee for brunch to stay spirited. Boats are rocked into little naps and gently burped by tapping waves as pelicans sneak around them. Port Fairy is the perfect summer-holiday destination, but there’s something more in its endurance and charm throughout the winter chill.

You are surrounded by an eclectic mix of beachwear decorating hairy bodies and rounded bellies, with skin sticky as the sunscreen settles. Your hair is tangled from the cool salty water, your cheeks are kissed pink, your legs are well stretched, and you have satisfied tum full of fish and chips. As you begin to doze lazily the Sneaky Gulls make their hungry sounds and you’re not even bothered if they steal a snack.
