Uluru Statement from the Heart and the Voice
I find it interesting that a call for a Voice 6 years ago wasn't a problem then but now you'd think we are being asked to sacrifice our first born.
Here's an excerpt from the Statement that, personally, I found quite uplifting.
"We seek constitutional reforms to empower our people and take a rightful place in our own country. When we have power over our destiny our children will flourish. They will walk in two worlds and their culture will be a gift to their country."
The last sentence should allay all fears and give hope for all of us for the future of Australia.
I think of the Italian and Greeks who came here in the 1950s who spoke little English and were often vilified. Fast forward a generation and their children/grandchildren did walk in two worlds and their culture was a gift, an ongoing gift.
Why is it wrong for the First Australians to aspire to such a noble goal?
It's not and I'm still voting Yes
