Something to ponder!
I want to address claims circulating around the community that a soldering iron and a UV light are clear evidence that the 90nm are all defective.
What i cannot fathom nor understand is.
Someone who holds themselves to such a high standard in the ps3 community is using absurd methods that hold no credit to the point they are trying to prove.
That point being the 90nm RSX all being defective.
Now a conical tip, a soldering iron and a UV light seem to be cogent enough to the PS3 online community to demonstrate something that cannot be proven without the vetting of a professional company (Which would cost tens of thousands of dollars.)
whom actually work the field or SONY announcing this themselves.
With these ridiculous assumptions and pseudo
processes that are being carried out to satisfy others of an issue that no one to this day has any technical verification of, that there is in effect defects with the 90nm RSX.
I could bang on for pages with my firsthand experience with the 90nm RSX but it’s not needed.
I am shedding light on the pseudo-science going on in the background that holds NO weight at all.
Aliens building the pyramids are more credible than what community members are trying to justify regarding the 90nm RSX with a soldering iron and UV light!

I also want to address “stress testing” these particular consoles after a repair/reball.
I have personally been bashed with the community keyboard warriors because I do not comply with their standards and beliefs that they have only recently become accustomed to.
The community standard is, according to these users, a 3 day stress test. That is the only way your repaired console should be tested according to these community members.
Despite the fact it could fail at 4 days, 4 weeks or 4 years but and I emphasize “BUT” a 3 day stress test is the only way you, I and the rest of the world should think and act!

Do as your told child! Why?

Why change what works when it comes to ones methods and processes, especially if these methods and processes work and have been working for many many years.
These community members are trying to convince themselves and the new gen of tweenies coming through on a 20 year old console that I myself have been working on for 16+ years now.
Why are these few community members trying to convince the world that it’s their way or you and the rest are just no good and have got it all wrong!
It’s a very toxic and divided community.

Another pompous claim being made by a few PS3 community members is that a “warranty” is just not utilised by the consumer. They lay claim to the majority of consumers “just throw their devices away”. This is absolutely absurd!
Why would you spend $400, $800, $1000 or more just to send it to landfill in a week, a month, a year when you have warranty to utilise??
The community members are trying to use this as a case as to why 1000’s of 90nm reballed PS3’s just never come back to the repairer for any reason and have never been seen again, so the majority of them have failed and just thrown away! Cmon guys. This is just RIDICULOUS!

The Truth about the 90nm RSX
Back in 2022, the PS3 community was misinformed regarding the “Bumpgate” issue with certain IC’s and IC manufacturers from the 2000’s. The community was led to believe that TSMC was the manufacturer of the 90nm RSX. TSMC are the fabricator that admitted to having produced IC’s with these issues.
There has been new evidence shed to light in 2024 that anyone but TSMC actually fabricated the 90nm RSX. Therefore displacing their memo confirming that their manufacture process of certain IC’s in the 2000’s had a substrate/bump flaw regarding the 90nm RSX.
This was also including the Xbox 360 GPU, which was actually fabricated with TSMC.
The 90nm RSX data that is retrievable from the Southbridge logging via UART, shows that Fujitsu,Sony and Toshiba are the only manufacturers of the 90nm RSX.
The 65nm RSX had 2 fabricators, Toshiba and Sony.
The 40nm RSX had 3 fabricators, Toshiba,Sony and TSMC
I have been reballing 90nm RSX’s since 2009 and have done 1000’s of them for customers and sales.
The failure rate after a reball over the years has been very little and upon return there has been other issues with the console other than an RSX or BGA issue. The 90nm RSX is just as reliable as the 65’s and 40’s. Although they are getting old now, they tend to wear out quicker and or die from reworking temperatures. Find a healthy 90nm RSX and it will last you years.
I have personally seen SONY Frankenstein modded consoles fail for the same reasons as the 90nm RSX and 65nm RSX’s too. They Frankenstein mod is not immune to BGA failure , especially on the COK-001/002 motherboards.
I have seen slim 40nm consoles fail BGA and need reballing, just like the 90nm RSX. No PS3 is immune to this issue.
A long story short is that no 90nm PS3 RSX was manufactured by the company that announced they had substrate/bumps issues with their manufacture process. So your 90nm RSX DOES NOT have faulty substrate or bumps issues!
My belief is that a poor design(rigidity),board size and clamping structure are what leads to common BGA failure on the larger COK motherboards. In saying that All revisions of PS3 motherboard from phat to slim to super slim all do and can have BGA defects and simply need a reball of the IC.
Attached is a spreadsheet of the RSX data logging I have been doing over the past 6-12 months

No Japanese Pokemon Crystal carts were harmed during the making of this!

Instead of 'donating' or scrapping a Japanese board to get the beautiful silkscreen we missed out on, thanks to Nataliethenerd there is another solution!

And it even fits inside the English housing, with the single hole on the middle.

Gameboy Color repair time!

This customer brought in his green GBC with a burnt out display. It was still powering on, the audio was there but there was no boot animation, just a black screen 🤔

The board looked super clean. All of the pins along the top of the CPU were fine, the ram was fine and none of the other major IC's had any lifted pins.

Upon closer inspection, one of the tiny capacitors marked C34 was bad! Swapped it out for a new 1uf and boom, here comes the Gameboy logo.

Power switch cleaned, capacitors replaced with a genuine screen from another donor system that became a Po-Co.

Thanks for looking 😊💜
