Funny how some chapters end, and you realise how much they built you.

In 2006, I stepped into HSBC Sri Lanka for my first real job. What I thought was just a starting point ended up shaping the foundation of my entire career.

That’s where I learned what it really means to be professional — the discipline, the standards, the ethics, and the responsibility that comes with the role. So much of how I work today still comes from those early years.

I was fortunate to have strong leaders who led by example, and colleagues who made the long days lighter.

Hearing that HSBC is closing its retail chapter in Sri Lanka feels like the closing of something bigger — a place that shaped so many careers, including mine.

I’ve moved on, still in banking, but I carry that foundation with me every single day.

Grateful for where it all began.
