Put simply, CGT isn’t a separate tax. It’s the income tax you pay on the profit you make when you sell or dispose of an asset.

This includes things like:
🏠 rental properties
📉 shares
💻 crypto assets.

If you dispose of an asset (meaning, you stop owning it) a CGT event may occur. That’s when you’ll need to report a capital gain or capital loss in your tax return.

Capital gain: will increase the tax you need to pay.

Capital loss: can be used to offset other capital gains you make in the future. This will reduce the tax you need to pay, so don’t forget to report these!

Anyone can ask their employer for flexibility in how they work, but some employees have a legal right to request flexible working arrangements under the National Employment Standards.

These arrangements can include changes to your hours (like different start and finish times), your pattern of work (like split shifts or job sharing), or your work location (like working from home).

Eligible employees include people who:

🤰are pregnant
🦮have a disability
👵are 55 or older
🙌 are carers
👪 care for a child who is school-aged or younger

💜 are experiencing family and domestic violence, or providing care or support to an immediate family or household member experiencing family and domestic violence.

Permanent employees need to have worked for their employer for at least 12 months to make a request.

Casual employees can make a request if they’ve worked for the same employer regularly and systematically for at least 12 months and have a reasonable expectation of that continuing.

Not everything is pre-filled for you. You need to declare all your income, not just salary and wages.

🛑BUT🛑 it doesn’t automatically mean you’ll get a 4.75% pay rise.

If you’re already being paid above the new minimum rate that applies to you, your employer ISN’T required to increase your pay.

If the new minimum rate is higher than your current pay rate, your employer IS required to increase your pay to at least that minimum rate.

✅ From 1 July, your employer pays super on payday. That part is true. It’s also great news!

⌛ But what you see in your super account might be a different story 👇

02/07/2026

💲💲With the recent increase to the National Minimum Wage and all award wages, pay rates might be a topic of interest at your workplace.

It’s up to you, not your employer, to share (or not share) info about your pay and any other employment terms and conditions needed to work out your pay.

If you do choose to share, your employer can’t take certain actions against you for doing so 🚫

Awards, enterprise agreements, and employment contracts can’t include pay secrecy terms that go against these rights.

Payday Super is right around the corner!

From 1 July 2026, your employer needs to pay super contributions at the same time they pay your salary or wages, so the contributions reach your nominated account within 7 business days.

There are some exceptions. For example, the first super contribution for a new employee will need to be made within 20 business days of their salary or wages being paid.

The Australian Tax Office is responsible for implementing the new rules and is the best source of info about the changes. Keep up to date on their website: https://www.ato.gov.au/businesses-and-organisations/super-for-employers/payday-super
