Job from this week — Southside Brisbane 🔧

Customer called frustrated. They'd just upgraded to a 250Mbps NBN plan and were still getting 18Mbps on their laptop in the lounge room.

Their ISP told them the line was fine. And it was.

The problem wasn't the NBN. It was everything after it.

Here's what I found:
❌ ISP-supplied modem/router doing everything — routing, WiFi, switching — all in one cheap box
❌ Placed in the corner of the front room, behind the TV unit
❌ 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks broadcasting on the same name, constantly confusing devices
❌ No QoS — the smart TV and the kids' tablets were eating every spare megabit

Here's what we did:
✅ Replaced the modem/router combo with a proper setup — dedicated modem, UniFi gateway handling the routing
✅ Two UniFi U6 access points ceiling-mounted for clean, even coverage across the whole home
✅ Separate SSIDs for main devices and IoT gear
✅ QoS configured so the work laptop actually gets priority

Speed test after: 238Mbps in the lounge. 221Mbps in the back bedroom.

Same NBN plan. Completely different experience.
