Nic Minns | “Sapphire” | FX3

“It made sense to create an authentic tapestry of India, from food to people to landscapes. We needed something that was going to be simple, lightweight, durable, and that was going to give a reliable image.”

Inspired by a Tove Lo music video, Minns and director Liam Pethick chose to keep Ed Sheeran in the centre of that tapestry, with a body-mounted camera rigged to face him the whole time.

Ismaele Tortella | Otters | FX6

“I’ve been fascinated by otters since I was a child in Italy. They’re incredibly rare and endangered there, and because they’re so shy and mostly nocturnal, I had never seen one in my life. They were almost mythical to me, an animal I dreamed of but never expected to encounter.

“The Sony FX6 made a huge difference in arctic conditions. Its dual ISO capabilities - especially being able to push the camera to 12,800 ISO while still maintaining excellent image quality - allowed me to film in light levels that would normally be impossible. The camera body itself also handled the harsh weather without any issues. Snow, moisture, and cold can be brutal on gear, but the FX6 kept performing consistently.”

“Initially, what appealed to me about the FX2 was its size and versatility.

“I wanted to be able to take great behind-the-scenes photos while also producing videos with genuine image quality. A single camera for both purposes.

“The FX2 wasn’t limited to just behind-the-scenes work. It shoots in 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 S-Log3, which also allowed me to use it as an additional camera to the FX6 - and even as a backup.

“For certain action scenes with the Bagualeros, I positioned it on a different axis to get an extra angle. And in those moments when everything moves fast, having an extra camera can really make a difference.

“In the end, this little camera - which I’d originally chosen for the behind-the-scenes footage - ended up doing much more than expected.”

We were super delighted to welcome the nominees from this year’s Sony Future Filmmakers Awards to the Sony DMPC in Pinewood Studios!

Prizes were handed out to the winners and all of the group were able to reconnect after the awards night in Los Angeles earlier this year...

Sony hosted a walkthrough of our Cinema Line, including a hands-on demo, and snippets from the winning films were screened.
