For many families, ageing, care, or cognitive decline can bring a difficult emotional shift.
Even if a loved one is safe, supported, and receiving care, the relationship can start to feel different. Visits may become less frequent than anyone would like. Phone calls can be hard to coordinate, or rely on technical capabilities your loved one may not have. Video calls often rely on staff availability, family schedules, and technology that was not designed with every older person in mind.
Over time, connection can become something that has to be planned, arranged, and facilitated, rather than something that feels natural.
We believe families should not have to lose the feeling of everyday connection simply because someone has moved into aged care.
We are working on a device designed to make communication simpler, more spontaneous, and more accessible for older people and their loved ones. Our goal is to reduce the friction around staying connected, especially for older people who may struggle with phones, tablets, apps, small buttons, touchscreens, or remembering how to answer a call.
We also recognise that care staff are already stretched. Our device is not about adding another task to their day. It is about helping families stay more connected in a way that is easier for everyone involved.
We are still early in our journey, and we are learning directly from families, older people, carers, and aged care providers about what connection looks like in real life. Please reach out if you are interested in sharing your experience, trialling our device, or anything else!
Because aged care should not mean losing the small, everyday moments that make someone feel close,
Rava exists to bring loved ones closer together.
