Create Your Own Website
Imagine that you are in a business, selling some items (whatever is it) and you are minute by minute getting the email aka “Create Your Own Website”. Sounds great, right? In front of your eyes, you might get a video, how easy this job is done within seconds. You might think, “Great, let’s do it.”
The cost? Just peanuts, click here and there, subscribe, give your credit card (in some cases not needed at all).
Imagine, you are in business of selling some items, which you understand perfectly, no doubt. By sudden, after your business decision, to make your own marketing (who could effort all these criminals), you decided to make your own website.
Yes they are talking about domain names and web hosting. After successful login, the unknown robot at the other end is starting to ask you some questions and requiring to enter some words, characters, you name it… You start to think, that the robot is talking to you in the language from other planet. Hmm… what does it mean DB address, PHP, MySQL, password (WTF, I have so many, which one is the right at the moment…). This is just a basic talk before SETUP. Still you don’t know, what will happen after that step. After you randomly enter something, which you’ll forget immediately, unless you make notes on the piece of paper, you might be in.
It does open in front of you a new world, new interface, which you never saw before. Hmmm, where to start, what to click as the first? Oh yes, there is a magic button called WIZARD. You decide to click on this, as you think this MAGIC will solve all your problems. You’re mistaken. The wizard will start you asking questions again, like talking from other planet, about colour, offering you #123456, pixels, points, css, fonts, font types, font sizes (which dimensions?), border, border colour, border thickness (which and where?).
At this moment you might be already sitting at the situation, where you were already one month before. Clicking and clicking and preview button just showing a mess, definitely not, what was your visual idea at the beginning.
Now, what we think is, that the slogan “Create Your Own Website” is absolutely misleading the society and it is just similar to the statement like “Drive Your Own Car as Formula 1 in a Traffic Jam” or as to sell the third vacuum cleaner to a retired pensioner (they have already two).
Think before toy click on CMS, “Yes, I want”.
